SPRING 2014 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we only have one quarter left of school! Fourth quarter is the perfect time to reflect with your child on the last three quarters and their vision of what the future may bring.  Encourage your high school students to share with you their post-graduation goals and dreams, and then discuss with them the possible courses they should be taking in the next few years.  In order to provide both parents and students with as much information as possible about high school expectations we will have a freshman orientation video available: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4pX4XvD7VY&feature=youtu.be . A senior packet was provided to our students with a checklist, survey and requirements. If you haven’t received this packet, please contact your advisor right away.

On Tuesday, April 1st, we will begin our testing for the HSGQE and SBA’s. This will involve students in grades 3rd through 12th. You should receive a letter in the mail regarding your student’s test, location and expectations. We have practice tests at our offices and also on our website under ‘Assessments’. As a parent or guardian, you can play an important role in the testing process by encouraging your child to do his/her best.  Here are some suggestions for things you can do at home.

Make sure that your child gets enough rest the night before the test.

Make sure your child eats breakfast before the test.

Make sure your child has enough time in the morning to get ready for testing without having to rush.

Explain to your child the importance of trying his or her best on the test.

Let your child know that he/she will have your support regardless of how well he/she does on the test.

As we wrap up third quarter and head in to fourth quarter please take a look at our events happening around our community. We have multiple field trips available for your students, a couple of clubs are in full swing and several deadlines are fast approaching. If you have any questions on any of these events, please call one of the Connections offices for more information.

We are very lucky to live in such a great community and work each and every day with wonderful students, advisors, and community members! Please call at any time with questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Lee Young
