February 2014 Newsletter
Dear Connections Families,
As we enter the last semester of the school year, I would like to encourage every parent to help keep their children focused on school. Winter seems to get long this time of the year and students need to be encouraged to stay involved in activities and homework. Parents and teachers have the same goal - to provide the best education for their children/students. Working together we can maximize the educational opportunities for every child. Therefore, please let any of us know how we can provide a better program to meet those needs. We are always open to any suggestions to make a better homeschool program for our Kenai Peninsula Families.
February can often be the toughest month of the school year. The excitement of the 1st semester has worn away, winter vacation is a distant memory and spring break is not quite on the horizon. A combination of these things can lead to a student struggling to stay focused on schoolwork. However, this is where, through the combined efforts of parents and advisors, students can also really begin to flourish by participating in the events we have scheduled. We have a variety of activities going on in February such as: Science Fair, Ice Fishing Field Trip, State Spelling Bee and our Battle of the Books Competition. We encourage you to participate in these activities and if you have any questions, please call the Connections office for more information.
We would like to recognize our students for doing a great job by posting their name and accomplishments on our Connections Facebook page. Please let us know when your student has done something you’d like them to be recognized for. We would love to acknowledge them on the Connections Facebook page where family and friends could see all of the great things our students are doing.
If you haven’t completed your Performance Series Assessment please contact your advisor as soon as possible for assistance. It is very important to monitor the progress of your students so you can adjust your teaching to meet their academic needs.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is holding a Public Budget Meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in the Soldotna High School library. Every one interested is encouraged to attend. If there are questions, please contact Lassie Nelson at 714-8838.
I sincerely hope that you and your family are having a wonderful winter season. Thank you for your dedication to homeschooling your children.
